For me, the jury is still out on how I feel about an upcoming N.W.A. movie. Some say that it’s a story long overdue, but I feel that once they start making movies about famous rap figures, it diminishes my memory of the era. I don’t know. This is just how I feel about it. F. Gary Gray is the director, so I’m sure the film is going to be hardcore and worth watching regardless. Anticipation is definite.
For those of you who haven’t already copped this album, take a listen to the full stream. There’s not one song on “Under Pressure” I dont like. LOGIC is one of the sickest most underated artists right now!. I’ve been loving him for a long time, ever since the first “Young Sinatra” mixtape. Damn it’s good to see one of my favorite artists starting to blow up. Hopefully he gets the shine he deserves.
Yes, this song is different (some say a little too commercial…oh well). It isn’t vulgar. That is not a bad thing. That’s what’s wrong with many fans of artists in this generation, we don’t allow our favorite artists experiment. This song is amazing in my opinion. The orchestral background and the REAL drums form a beautiful stage for Abel to sing over. Every song Abel (The Weeknd) releases doesn’t have to be dark, cold-hearted, guilt ridden, low-life pussy anthems, no matter how good they are lol. He needs to develop, and he needs to expand. This song is very much Abel, listen to the melisma, listen to the “old radio” fade out. The Weeknd literally is the angel voiced Ethiopian! And any track he touches turns to gold.
One of the best songs Common created, “War”, for some strange reason isn’t featured on his latest album, “Nobody’s Smiling”… which is why it was a must that I posted it on this blog. The production sounds like something wicked from a 60’s or 70’s horror flick laced with Common’s diabolical lyricism. It’s just an all around great record that zooms in on the crisis and violence we are witnessing in Chicago and in America’s inner cities.
In the Outro of “War”, Common states, “The direction was we, we came up with this concept, Nobody Smiling was really a thought that came about because of all the violence that was going on in Chicago, or that is going on. I like to say “was” cause we gon’ bring it in for wishing that it’s gonna stop. You know and uh, all the violence that was going on – it happens in Chicago but it’s happening around the world in many ways. You know, it may not be to the numbers that’s happening in Chicago but it’s happening in the inner cities all over America so we’s talking about the conditions of what’s happening when I said “Nobody Smiling” but it’s really a call to action.”
“J. .Cole in one word – Amazing, I liked about 98% of sideline and BS and don’t even get me started on his great mixtapes…I’m glad he didnt detour from the path he’s been on over the years and I see people talking about how he should branch out and do this or that but there’s an old saying: “If it ain’t broke dont fix it”. I’m not saying he’s a living reincarnation of Mozart as a rapper (yet), but he damn sure is one of the best rappers alive right now that will go down in history as one of the greats if not one of the best…shit like future, young thug, migos, rae shurmmard (whatever), Bobby shurmda etc ain’t gon be remembered for much cus lets be real they make “turn up” music, here today and gone tomorrow as history does repeat itself. But I won’t sit here and flex like I don’t listen to them, I’m just saying they aren’t built to last” – a comment from youtube…and I concur.
In “Didn’t Know”, ASTRO reminisces about his life before his fame and explains his childhood with a ridiculously good flow. It’s a genuine great rap song, one that is a pure representation of East Coast hip hop, a story being told with no cursing. ”Didn’t Know” has that Brooklyn sound I’ve missed, this is what Jay Z use to be, a young dude spitting some real sh*t. You might remember Astro from the XFactor about 3 years back. He’s come a long way and has a bright future ahead of him.
Let’s all pray that KENDRICK LAMAR drops his album on Christmas without warning. That would be crazy! Artists like Kdot is why I consider Hip Hop to be the “master genre” of all genres. The pure poetry of it all. Words are so important, so incredibly amazing in rap, other genres just can’t compare. Kendrick will be a legend up there with Biggie, Nas, Em, 2pac, Rakim, and the rest. Could even outshine them all in due time. His song, “Untitled” is amazing.
“The war on medical marijuana is over,” said Bill Piper, a lobbyist with the Drug Policy Alliance to the Los Angeles Times. According to TheAtlantic.com, “The $1 trillion spending bill that passed last week included a provision that blocks the Justice Department from spending any money to enforce a federal ban on growing or selling marijuana in the 32 states that have moved to legalize it for medical use. It marks a huge shift for Congress, which for years had sided with federal prosecutors in their battle with states over the liberalization of drug laws.”
Whether BILL COSBY raped all of those women or not, one thing appears true…that he cheated on CAMILLE COSBY left and right. I never understood why people get married knowing that they can’t keep their pants zipped up. Anyways, that’s my two cents.
