It was an exciting worldwind weekend of music and laughter, food and joy, at the 8th Annual, JAZZ IN THE GARDENS Music Festival 2013 (March 16-17th) in Miami Gardens, Florida. One of the artists that stole the show was the talented and animated, FANTASIA BARRINO! She gave a spectacular stage performance and was stunning, poised, and full of heart and soul, while speaking candidly to the media. Here's what she had to say. FANTASIA, "First of all, thank you for letting me be me because I'm not going to change for anybody. I came into this industry as a very young and very green small-town country girl, who believed that everybody had my back, like they said they had my back..."
Sway: Did you think you would make it this far as an artist? NAS: "I got to be honest, back then (when Nas recorded 'Illmatic'), dudes wasn't making it this far. So I didn't know how to look that far. So I didn't about it. Sway: Your song, "Daughters" has been nominated twice. Is YOUR daughter happy about that? NAS: "I think she’s happy that her dad’s not corny. I’m lucky that she still thinks that I am cool.” Sway: Do you already have a speech prepared if you win one of these awards? NAS: "NO...And I really don't wanna go there. I look at it as we're already winners, no matter what. We've already won, so I don't even want to think that far. We're just here having a good time. I'm happy to be here. And I'm grateful to all of you out there."
Happy Birthday to a humanitarian who was instrumental in making reggae music a universal symbol for peace and love. Included in this blog post is a rare interview with Bob Marley talking about the rastafarian culture and the importance of marijuana. I've also attached my favorite song from the reggae legend, 'I Don't Want To 'Wait In Vain' For Your Love'.
I interviewed Rick Ross in 2002, while he was still an underground artist. Before he dropped his first album, the 'Port of Miami'. Before he went on to record four additional historical rap albums and numerous mixtapes. Before he signed to Slip-n-Slide Records. Before he launched Maybach Music Group. And before he became a Miami rap legend. When you listen to this throwback interview, you'll see that his accomplishments surpassed all his aspirations. At a South Beach club, Ross spoke about his current journey in the industry, his goal with rap, and offered advice to young people. The question now is... was it worth it? And rap fans wanna know, what's next for Ross, musically? Because as the story is still being told, we can all see that it's Deeper Than Rap. Stay safe Bawse.
From his music, to his movies, television, and stage performances, when the maestro, Ky Mani Marley is in action, one is always amazed. Ky Mani gave an electrifying performance at the Reggae World Unity Festival in Grand Central Park downtown Miami on January 20th. Then later, he answered questions about "Shottas" and the new music he's releasing!
It's a relief, to hear the energized flows of West Philly rapper, Sincere aka S.I.N, on his new and electrically charged mixtape, "DOTTED LINE" ... highly anticipated after the release of his first project, ‘Boarding Pass’. SINCERE does an incredible job of honoring Hip Hop in "DOTTED LINE" with a hardcore collection of hits that include remnants of old-school chords connected to futuristic sounds. It’s even more gratifying to find S.I.N. paying homage to different eras and multiple genres of music on his new mixtape, as it is apparent that he has strong artistic abilities, extensive musical training, and a keen ear to what sounds best.
