Last night, Kanye West came back to his political roots and brilliantly reminded the world why he is quite possibly the reigning ‘King of Rap’. He unveiled his first new release & video for, “New Slaves” via projections of his face on buildings and skyscrapers across the world. This video includes the projection at the corner of Bedford and N. 7th in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. A total of sixty-six projections are involved in the launch.
Indonesia artist, YUNA, may very well be the next Sade. I’m featuring her for this week’s #Throwback post because of her rare talent, meaningful songs, and angelic voice. Just listen to her exotic vocals and the exciting excellent the way her collaboration comes together with her choice of words and music sound beats in her take of Frank Ocean’s, “Thinkin’ About You”. It’s a nice cover..everyone have their own style and Yuna is totally different from others. She is unique and a talented singer songwriter. So in that regard, I’ve also included the video my favorite Yuna song titled, “Live Your Life.”
Kendrick Lamar delivers a stong ‘say no to drugs’ message in his new video for cult favorite, “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe” off of his critically acclaimed, “Good Kid M.a.a.d. City” album. Kendrick metaphorically sets the scene at a funeral for the whole ‘death of molly’ concept in the video that features movie star and comedian, Mike Epps. Kendrick is currently on the “Verge Campus Tour” with DJ Steve Aoki and will kick off his “good kid, m.A.A.d city” world tour on May 22nd.
Janelle Monáe collaborates with the great Erykah Badu (aka the “dangerous accomplice, Badoula Oblongata) and graces us with visuals for their new single, “Q.U.E.E.N.”, off of Monae’s forthcoming album ‘The Electric Lady’. Initially, I wasn’t too sure about the song, but then the video came out and solidified that this song is just EVERYTHING! Janelle is giving out free samples of James Brown/funky soul cutlets! AND MOMMA ERYKAH!! She’s SERVING a nubian, eclectic, afro goddess tease. I am in FULL attendance for ALL of this! Janelle’s “The Electric Lady” is set to be released this fall.
16 year old rapper, Bishop Nehru, is young blood to the hip hop industry with a wicked flow. Last week, he gave his debut performance at the Ghostface, MF Doom Converse show and dominated the stage. Check out the video of his live performance and the music video for his hit single, Misruled Order
Ciara is known for creating some of the sexiest videos in music history, and the visuals for her new single, “Body Party” are no different. As a matter of fact, Ciara out-done herself this time as her vocals are as sensual as the mesmerizing body movements that remind us of why we all love her so much. “The real fun begins when the scene switches to CiCi stripping off her robe in front of a cigar-smoking, Future (rapper/boyfriend), before eventually dropping to the floor, laying on her back and sticking her stiletto-clad heels in the air.” – Idolator. The video also features cameos from Trinidad James, Ludacris, and is shot by Director X.
When Ghostface Killiah has his mask on, you know it’s time for the dopest music ever created by any madman. Wu-Tang’s master wordsmith just released his spanking brand new single, “The Rise Of Ghostface Killah”, off of his soon-to-be-released album, “Twelve Reasons To Die”. This highly-anticipated project is executed-produced by the incredible genius, RZA, which will undoubtedly make it the best album of the year. And judging from the title, we can only expect some unimaginable rawness.
Day 3 of the 2013 Coachella Music Festival, RZA, GZA, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, U-God, Masta Killa and Cappdadonna of the powerhouse rap group, the Wu-Tang Clan reunited on stage to celebrate their 20th year anniversary and the release of their new album by ‘A Better Tomorrow’.
Wu-Tang performed all of their classic hits to an adoring audience, even taking the time to perform “Shimmy Shimmy Ya – Oh Baby I Like It Raw”, in honor of fallen band mate, Ol’ Dirty Bastard. Included in this blog post are two videos of Wu-Tang performing “C.R.E.A.M.” and “Protect Ya Neck”, as well as amazing photos of the show. The album, “A Better Tomorrow” is set to be released in July.
For all of you who are into that whole ‘Gangnam Style’ craze, South Korean ‘rapper’, PSY, brings you Part 2 of the madness. The title of the song is “Gentlemen’, and through PSY’s cult fans, it’s sure to be just as big of a hit as ‘Gangnam Style (which received over 1.5 BILLION youtube hits).
The music video for “Gentlemen,” mimics “Gangnam” and its much-loved antics. The video co-stars GA, a wildly popular K-Pop singer from girl group ‘Brown Eyed Girls’ (‘Gentlemen’ is inspired by her 2009 hit “Abracadabra”). Throughout the video, PSY is initially acting like a crazy jackass, until GA shows up and gives him a taste of his own medicine. Nice.
Today, we were having a debate on facebook on who’s the better rapper (strictly lyrical)… NAS vs Andre 3000. The consensus is that most people feel Nas is the better lyricist, especially knowing that Andre 3000 haven’t released a solo album yet. But at the same time, the fact that ’3 Stacks’ is being compared to ANYONE, based on just his collaborations alone, makes him a premiere MC for sure. Arguments in 3 Stacks favor suggests that he is more wittier than Nas. All of which reminded me of this collabo Andre 3000 did with Nas’ ex-wife, Kelis, titled, “Millionaire”.
