‘NiggerHair Tobacco’ – A Bizarre Moment In Time (PICS & Video)

 

According to stonegate antiques (who says they have an original tin for sale for $695), in 1926, the American Tobacco Company changed the name of their product from NIGGER HAIR to BIGGER HAIR tobacco because the word “nigger” was becoming less socially acceptable. At that time, the material out of which the tobacco container was constructed was changed from tin to heavy cardboard.

 

Below is a “commercial” about ‘Nigger Hair” from the movie Confederate States of America: If the South Would Have Won. This satire conveys the message that ridiculous products like this, would still exist today if the North had lost the Civil War.
