MOBB DEEP’s, PRODIGY, has passed away. HE was 42. RIP to the Legend via @lisafordblog

"To all the killers and the hundred dolla billers" Hip Hop lost a legend today… RIP PRODIGY, the infamous lyricist from Iconic rap duo, MOBB DEEP. Songs like “Survival of the Fittest” inspired me and increased my undying love for Hip Hop, and "The Infamous", album was one of the best Hip Hop projects of all time. I keep the "Shook Ones Part 2" playing in regular rotation DAILY, as this is one of the few songs that captivate my ears. And Mobb Deep’s influential music has been described by Rolling Stone magazine as a "raw, vivid, and vicious distillation of East Coast gangsta rap". The cause of PRODIGY’s death is yet to be determined, but the “Poetical Prophet” has long been battling with sickle cell disease, where the life expectancy is only about 40 years old. Seems like every other day the world shows you that we’re not immortal. Hip Hop lost another G.O.A.T.

TUPAC – A Rare Video You Probably Never Saw. #PacsBirthday via @lisafordblog

The Tupac biopic, "All Eyez On Me", directed by Benny Boom, dropped today to commensurate the legacy the iconic rapper. The filma also served as birthday gift to his fans as Pac's birthday is today, June 16th (Pac would have been 46 years old). I'm a die-hard fan and I'm personally nervous about watching the film because I hold a very nostalgic view of Pac that I don't want ruined (even though I don't think that's possible). In previous blog posts, I did publish the trailer video, so I won't go that route today. Instead I'm posting something light-hearted, a little insight on Pac's humorous personality, that I thought you would enjoy. Rest in Paradise Pac.

THE WEEKND Is A $92 Million Dollar Man – Read How Artists are making a Killing!! via @lisafordblog

Forbes: The indirect spoils of streaming can be even greater. Abel "the Weeknd" Tesfaye parlayed his play count--5.5 billion streams in the past two years--into an estimated $75 million touring advance. To him it's all part of the model he's been following throughout his rapid rise, one that applies to all sorts of businesses: Create an excellent product, make it widely available and flip the monetization switch when the timing is right.

EMINEM Makes the Oxford Dictionary via @lisafordblog.com

The culture of Hip Hop continues to transform the modern world including our present-day language and the way that we speak day to day. Case in point...EMINEM'S song and term "Stan" has been added to the Oxford Dictionary. "Stan", the hit record from Em's "Marshall Mathers" LP released in 2000 is about "a crazed fan who became so irate that Eminem didn't return his letters that he killed his pregnant girlfriend, drove off a bridge, and drowned. The term "Stan" has since been used in much less-than-gory contexts to describe one's liking and admiration for pretty much anything."

First look at Angelina Jolie’s Animated Film About Life Under the Taliban (Trailer) via @lisafordblog

Angelina Jolie is lending her support to the Canadian co-produced movie, "The Breadwinner". “I am proud to be a part of this beautiful film with this timely and very important subject matter. Millions of girls around the world have to grow up before their time, working to provide for their families at a very young age and in difficult circumstances. They have the strength to do what no one should ask little girls to do.” - Angelina Jolie

Zoe Kravitz slays on the new cover of Allure (Photos) via @lisafordblog

If you haven't yet watched HBO's "Big Little Lies" featuring Zoe Kravitz, then you are doing yourself a terrible disservice. On the critically acclaimed limited series, Zoe Kravitz plays Bonnie Carlson, the free-spirited second wife of Nathan Carlson— the ex-husband of Monterey, California’s queen bee, Madeline Martha Mackenzie. Kravitz plays the only black woman on the show. Allure magazine writes, "Her character, Bonnie, kind of an alt-left paragon on the surface at least, seems uncannily laid-back and reasonable and generous in the drama’s tense, repressive environment, full of helicopter moms and competitive parenting." Now Zoe is featured on Allure Magazine's June 2017 cover and in light of recent political events, in the article she speaks on identity politics. Zoe states, “Racism is very real, and white supremacy is going strong.” And identity is not something to be mocked or taken lightly. It’s better in her words: “I am definitely mixed. Both my parents are mixed. I have white family on both sides. The older I get, the more I experience life, I am identifying more and more with being black, and what that means — being more and more proud of that and feeling connected to my roots and my history. It’s been a really interesting journey because I was always one of the only black kids in any of my schools. I went to private schools full of white kids. I think a lot of that made me want to blend in or not be looked at as black. The white kids are always talking about your hair and making you feel weird. I had this struggle of accepting myself as black and loving that part of myself. And now I’m so in love with my culture and so proud to be black. It’s still ongoing, but a big shift has occurred. My dad especially has always been very connected to his history, and it’s important to him that I understand where I come from.”
