Republished from the article, [10 Things You Should Know About Slavery and Won’t Learn at ‘Django’] by colorlines, this list pretty much breaks down the institution of slavery in colonial America. But don’t just take their word for it. If you’re interested in this subject, I’ve listed books, that come highly recommended, at the end of the the post.

** LISA FORD & HONOREBEL @ The REGGAE WORLD UNITY FEST PRIVATE PRESS PARTY AT CIRCLE VILLAGE !! [PHOTOS]** . I must say that this is one of the best parties I’ve been to in years! The pic above is of yours truly and the world famous dancehall singer, HONOREBEL! He and others were sizzling hot last night looking amazing and mingling with entertainment reporters, bloggers, radio stations, and media from all around the word. The ambiance at this party, held at the famous Circle Village in North Miami, was tropical and beautiful. It was a typical sexy outdoor Miami party – Palm trees, candles, a sparkling pool, drinks, good music, & beautiful people.

The concept is epic and Ab-Soul with Kendrick Lamar for ‘Illuminate’ will go down as an iconic collaboration in Hip Hop. Ab-Soul’s black hippie roots are combined with Lamar’s purist Hip Hop movement. This project is getting a lot of positive feedback from fans of both artists. “Illuminate” is from Ab-Soul’s independent album “Control System” under the Top Dawg Entertainment label.

Frank Ocean’s ‘Pink Matter’ remix featuring Andre 3000 and Big Boi seems to be an Outkast reunion of some sort. But André 3000 says “Pink Matter” isn’t a real OutKast Reunion…, “I never want to mislead our audience.” The song is nice though. Take a listen….

After Stacey Dash’s public announcement for her support for Mitt Romney, she has now devoted her twitter page to a full blown platform for sharing her Republican views. But not without tweeting links to her new scripted comedy series, ‘STACEY DASH IS NORMAL, where Dash plays an over-the-top conflicted version of herself.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME! As I grow a year older, I ponder on what I can do to make a difference in this world. I hope that this blog, which, as a writer, has been a dream of mine all of my life, serves as a muse that inspire others to pursue their dreams and never give up. I resolve to make this site even better in 2013 by having the courage to open up more and truly express myself & my love for music without boundaries.

At midnight, I brought in my ‘born day’ in a special way… by plopping on the couch and watching the only movie on cable worth watching at the time, ‘The Pianist’. The film (based on a true story) is about Polish-Jewish musician, Władysław Szpilmant, who escapes the jaws of death on numerous occasions at the hands of German soldiers. I included my favorite clip in this blog post, the horrific moment when he actually IS CAPTURED. This post is unique as this blog usually focuses on hip hop and modern music. But as you know, a lot of music we listen to today stems from the classics. During this part of the film, one assumes that the German solider seen is going to put a bullet in ‘The Pianist’ head. But Music itself, saves the musician as the soldier first instructs the pianist to play a song.

9th Wonder’s “American Gangster” mixtape reconstructs Jay-Z’s 2007 album ‘American Gangster’. The project includes tracks like “Party Life” and “Sweet” featuring samples from Kool and The Gang and The Love Unlimited Orchestra. Once again, another superb body of work from iconic producer, 9th wonder.

Kendrick Lamar raps acapella “Sing About Me, I’m Dying of Thirst”, one of the most personal and poignant songs on his explosive debut album, Good kid, m.A.A.d City”, and explains the story behind the song’s powerful lyrics.

Congratulations to LEBRON JAMES on being named the USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year! And it is well deserved! James is one of just two players in the entire history of the game to win MVP, the NBA Championship and the Olympics in the same year, along with Michael Jordan.

The gifted and talented MYA releases a new video for ‘Mr. Incredible, a song elegantly constructed with crystal clear vocals in perfect pitch. As you know, I can not run this blog without paying tribute to the classics aka old school Hip Hop. Today’s throwback is courtesy of my favorite rapper of all time, Tupac Shakur. He said his only fear of death is being reincarnated….but Pac doesn’t have to worry about that, because he’s immortalized. “Minnie The Moocher” is off of Pac’s album “Beginnings: The Lost Tapes 1988-1991”.
