The Original 50 CENT – not the Rapper!!

THE ORIGINAL 50 CENT!!! (not the Rapper!!) THE TRUE STORY OF THE LEGEND WHO INSPIRED THE BIGGEST NAME IN RAP!! DID YOU KNOW THAT THE RAPPER 50 CENT NAMED HIMSELF AFTER A GANGSTER TOO?? SEE BELOW FOR THE TRUE STORY OF THE ORIGINAL 50 CENT!!

It took a whole army to bring down KELVIN MARTIN, aka, The Original 50 CENT. He was considered the Hood’s version of Billy the Kid…a stick-up man who suffered an untimely demise. Hailed from the Ingersol Projects aka the Ft. Greene Projects, This one man terrorized the biggest gangsters during the 80’s during the crack cocaine epidemic and wasn’t afraid of anybody even though he stood 5’2 120 lbs.

The Rapper, 50 Cent says he took the name because he felt it stood for “Gangster”.

50 Cent, The Rapper, says, “The same type of person he was, I am. I provide for myself by any means necessary. If I would have named myself Capone or Gotti, I don’t feel I would have gotten the same respect. Artists brag about being a gangster, but they’re only emulating what they’re afraid of.  The Original 50 cent has a story, and it’s something that I lived, and am not emulating.”

Kelvin ’50 Cent’ Martin, carried 2 long barreled revolvers everywhere he went. Some say he was Blood-thirsty and robbed everybody from Drug-dealers to Celebrities, including DJ Scratch of EPMD. “Everybody knew how he went in,” said Eric B of Eric B & Rakim, who had been his friend since 86’.

He did it old-school style and wore a black mask. He didn’t drink or do drugs. He didn’t trust anybody. He thought everybody was out to get him. Kelvin ’50 Cent’ Martin carried a 357 and other guns that were bigger than him. He was shot 24 times on 9 different occasions and stabbed several times. He spent some time in Riker’s Island, and he murdered about 30 people total in his life, according to close friends and family.

Check out the back of the Paid in Full album, you’ll see 50 Cent kneeling in the right bottom corner, The Original 50 Cent was a huge fan of rappers.

When his friends heard about The Rapper, 50 Cent, they said they wondered if the Rapper knew of Kelvin and the Kelvin Martin story? His Friends don’t mind rapper keeping his name up as long as he continues to big up the Original. 50 Cent, The Rapper, says, “I always told everybody I was named after a gangster from Ft. Greene projects. And I got Rakim’s approval”

Rakim responded, “I accepted him because the music was good and maintain name on a higher level.”

In the end, because people were trying to kill him, Kelvin enlisted in the army. But his past caught up with him and he was given honorable discharge and sent back from Georgia to New York to face robbery charges. When he returned he hid in the Ft. Greene Projects. He was leaving his baby mama’s house on the 7th floor, and in the stairwell, shot multiples times by a friend who did it to prevent his own family from being executed… The Original 50 Cent died at just 23 years old.

Rakim states, “A lasting picture of the Original 50 Cent is that although he was, he didn’t want to be so crazy. And the Rapper, 50 Cent should definitely take Kelvin’s daughter under his wings.”

After reading this story, what I would like to know is what truly makes someone a ‘Gangster’? It seems as if in our urban communities, the number of times you’ve been shot or the length of time you’ve been in prison may constitute a “Gangster” status. But what are we doing really? We’re fighting our own…in our own land…when there are real wars being fought overseas by  ‘Real’ soldiers. So I really don’t understand 50, the Rapper’s point, when he says his name stands for “Gangster”.
