Lisa Ford sat face to face with with the infamous R&B legend, Bobby Brown, after his performance at the world reowned Jazz In The Gardens Music Festival (2011) in Miami Gardens, FL. It was a calmer time in his life, before the crushing news of Whitney Houston’s death, at the height of his comeback, during his tour with Heads of State (Brown, Ralph Tresvant and Johnny Gill). We spoke about the reunion of New Edition (who he is currently on tour with…see photo above), about his success on his multiple reality TV shows, and about the art of the comeback. Brown offers advice on how to pick yourself up after a hard fall; Words of wisdom that will remain sketched in our minds in lieu of the sudden death his ex-wife, friend, and icon.
In the interview, Brown stated, “My mother always told me when you fall down you have to get back up and dust yourself off…and that’s what I’ve been able to do. Whenever I fell on bad times, I was able to pick myself back up and move on…because that’s what life is about. You can’t dwell on the past, you have to move forward to the future.”
Now that Brown is in a grievous state, I wonder if he will be strong enough to hold on to those words of wisdom. With this thought, another statement of Brown’s come to mind. He told me, “Sometimes I fall, but I get back up. It’s about being positive, sticking to your gun, and knowing that God is there to give you encouragement.”
